she leans to look at his computer.
JEN CONT’D
What are you working on?
CHRIS
Advertising class. I’m ideating.
KERI
You’re who-the-what-what-who-ing?
CHRIS
Spit balling ideas. I have to create a product and then write and film a commercial.
(pause)
Do you guys wanna be in it?
JEN PAIGE KERI
NO (waaaah)!!
The girls gather around Chris at the head of the table looking at the sheet of paper he’s working

JEN
Well, what do you have so far? Aside from a lot of crumpled paper.
Jen looks around the table and floor.

KERI
I frickin’ love this idea.
PAIGE
It’s definitely creative.
JEN
What other ideas do you have?
PAIGE
What’s this Gene and Me about?
CHRIS
It’s a product idea for an affordable genealogy kit. But it’s too generic.
JEN
Not if you make it fun.
CHRIS
Fun how?
Fun how?
JEN
Well, you have a humorous tone in Plummet Air. Translate that to Gene- N-Me and make it
informational, but funny.
KERI
Yeah. People always remember funny commercials.
Yeah. People always remember funny commercials.
JEN
True story.
PAIGE
You should change “and” to an “N.” You know, like Hot-N-Now Burgers.
CHRIS
Gene-N-Me? Hmm? Humor does sell.
CHRIS CONT’D
I was thinking I’d make Gene a person? Like the main character.
JEN
Go on.
(encouraging tone)
(encouraging tone)
CHRIS CONT’D
Gene uses the kit and discovers he has a twin brother. I’m envisioning a cheeky, quirky theme and
appeal.
PAIGE
My two brothers look a lot alike and they’re funny as hell. I bet they’d be down for acting in it.
CHRIS CONT’D
KIDS!!! I think we’ve got something.

JEN
So, I was also thinking this summer we could take a trip together.
CHRIS
Oh, really. What do you have in mind?
JEN
Well, the rest of my family is dying to meet you. How about a cross-country drive to California?

Chris’s loud response of “KID” startles Paige and she quickly awakens, lifts her head, and stares
straight ahead. This makes Keri jump and turn her head towards Paige.
PAIGE
(in a foggy state of mind)
I have to finish that excel spread sheet.
Keri comforts Paige by wrapping her arm around her and eases Paige’s head back onto her shoulder. Paige complies and falls back to sleep.
